I have been repairing and conserving old renders since 1990, and through analysis,
research and the experience of nearly 60 new roughcast renders I have been able to
evolve my techniques so that my new renders have a gentle closed texture reminiscent
of many historic renders.
I normally include vernacular features such as trowelled in quoins at the corners
and around windows.
I take into account the character and location of the building before making any
choices of texture, colour, decorative details or even type of lime rather than being
governed by a rigid dogma of using only one material or technique.
